Ballmer Group Supports MSU Bi-Partisan Leadership Program

Transformational Multiyear Donation Supports Michigan Political Leadership Program

EAST LANSING, Mich., April 30, 2025 – The Institute for Public Policy and Social Research (IPPSR) at Michigan State University has announced a new $750,000 multi-year gift from Ballmer Group in support of the Michigan Political Leadership Program (MPLP). The donation is the largest in MPLP's history and will help cover the program's expenses.

"We are incredibly thankful to the Ballmer Group for their support of the Michigan Political Leadership Program and its mission of developing leaders who can move beyond the partisan fighting so prominent in our nation today," said IPPSR Director Dr. Matt Grossmann. Grossmann continued, "Thanks to their support, we have already secured help from two of our alumni to strengthen our recruitment in both parties and throughout the state."

Co-founded by Connie and Steve Ballmer, Ballmer Group funds organizations and leaders to reshape opportunity and expand economic mobility across the United States. In 2024, the Ballmer group donated over $1.23 billion to over 500 grant recipients.

Founded in 1992, MPLP is managed by the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research (IPPSR) at Michigan State University (MSU). MPLP is intended to develop future political leaders here in Michigan. Over half of the program's graduates have gone on to be elected or appointed to public office. The program has been praised for its bipartisan nature and was one of the first of its kind to train members of both political parties.
