The task force was formed after the failure of the Edenville and Sanford Dams on May 19, 2020 following torrential rains. Those failures forced evacuation of nearly 10,000 people and caused an estimated $200 million in damage.

The Task Force met seven times during the five months leading up to its 50-plus page report. Its final report resulted in 86 recommendations..
