Larry A. Hembroff, Ph.D.
Larry Hembroff, Ph.D., (Sociology, Washington State University, 1978) joined the MSU faculty in 1987 after nine years in the Sociology Department of Radford University in Virginia. A year later, he was asked to establish and develop the Office for Survey Research, which then launched its first telephone survey in early 1989.

He oversees the methodological approaches of OSR at all phases, including sampling designs, training, questionnaire development, data collection, data processing and analysis.

He has published several monographs, and numerous research articles in such journals as Social Psychology Quarterly, Social Forces, the American Journal of Sociology, and others. He has authored or co-authored dozens of research reports over a wide range of topics for foundations, state and county government agencies, municipalities, and university administrative offices. And, he has authored numerous briefing papers based on the State of the State Surveys. Beyond research for clients, he has an on-going interest in and has conducted a variety of experiments exploring survey methodology.

In 2002, he received the Outstanding Supervisor Award, based on nominations by OSR staff. In 2003, he received the Distinguished Academic Specialist Award from MSU. Larry is available at (517) 353-1763 and hembroff@msu.edu.

Karen Clark
Karen Clark is the Senior Project Manager at OSR. Since the late 1980s she has worked on research projects of various types, including IPSSR’s State of the State Survey, Random Digit Dial (RDD) statewide surveys, family issues, and BRFS related projects. She has extensive training with OSR's Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) system and Computer Assisted Survey Execution System (CASES) software and with several statistical and database packages. She annually manages and programs over 20 telephone, mail, and data entry projects, and has taken the lead in developing IPPSR's web survey capability. As the primary CASES programmer, she works with the University of California at Berkley, which develops the software, by testing new versions, troubleshooting problems, and making sure that the data-entry, interview, and coding instruments work properly. Lerena Cunningham
Ms. Cunningham is the data entry operator at OSR. She is responsible for assembling advance letter mailings for telephone surveys, questionnaires and incentives for mailed surveys, for data entry of mailed questionnaires, and for coding open-ended responses in some telephone surveys. Nathaniel Ehrlich, Ph.D.
Nat Ehrlich, Ph.D. came to IPPSR in 2003 as a Survey Research Specialist. He has authored more than a dozen papers in survey research methodology and statistics, and has conducted survey research on business leaders, elected officials, university students, persons with disabilities, and adults who have been in foster care.
Prior to his involvement in survey research, Nat taught psychology at the University of Michigan and City College, City University of New York, and conducted research in a wide variety of topics, including forensic psychiatry, animal behavior, and mathematical modeling of human learning and performance. Jill Hardy
Jill Hardy serves as project manager at OSR. Current projects include working with the the PRAMS project and PROST-QA, a multi-year panel study. She comes to OSR with over 10 years experience in project and personnel management. As a graduate student in MSU’s Department of Horticulture, Jill has been involved with various types of survey research since 1998 and authored several journal articles in that field. Jill Hardy
Debra Rusz, M.A.
Ms. Rusz is a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at MSU. She holds degrees in Wildlife Management and Environmental Sociology. She has worked at OSR for six years and has worked as a data and project manager for the MBRFS for the past four. Her primary assignment is managing the MBRFS and other BRFS-type surveys such as the Osteoporosis/Arthritis, and the Cancer surveys. She also manages the PRAMS project and has played key project management and data management roles on hundreds of other OSR projects, including the childhood immunization surveys. Debra Rusz

Linda Stork
Linda Stork is OSR ’s Director of Survey Operations. She joined the OSR staff in 2007 after 20 years experience in national field and telephone surveys. At OSR, Ms. Stork is responsible for recruiting and training interviewers and supervisors, ensuring the use and development of survey research best practices, and directing and monitoring day-to-day data collection activities of OSR’s Survey Research Lab. She began her career at the University of California at Berkeley’s Survey Research Center. Prior to joining MSU, Ms. Stork worked with other highly regarded research organizations, including Wilder Research, the National Opinion Research Center (NORC), RAND, Westat and Mathematica Policy Research, Inc. She has experience designing survey instruments, developing training programs and managing large and small telephone and face-to-face surveys. Ms. Stork has recruited, trained and managed interviewing staffs for health, labor, environmental, education and other public policy surveys, many requiring multicultural sensitivities and bilingual interviewers.
