"Celebration Drinking" Study

Breakthrough findings are now available from the U.S. Department of Education (ED) funded collaborative between Michigan State University's Olin Health Center, Department of Communication, and Institute for Public Policy and Social Research. Results on two major surveys and programs related to student drinking include: College Students and "Celebration Drinking" and B.R.A.D. Foundation Card Survey. In addition to the resources available online, more information is available by contacting the research team. Most documents are available in adobe acrobat format.*

College Students and "Celebration Drinking"

Welcome Week PosterNearly 1,200 MSU students were interviewed to test the hypothesis that there are occasions of "celebration drinking" in which there is a normative climate that either encourages or leads larger proportions of students than normal to drink, to drink to excess, and to commit more time to drinking, and thereby possibly increase the risk of alcohol poisoning. The findings as well as a resulting media campaign are available below.
