Michigan State University participated in the National
College Health Assessment Survey through Olin Student
Health Center’s membership in the American College Health
Association (ACHA). The survey is meant to help MSU, parents, and
students:
• better understand trends,
• identify emerging problems,
• report behavioral norms,
• identify risk factors to safety and academic
performance,
• prioritize student health care issues,
• allocate resources for programming,
• design new programs, and
• evaluate current strategies.
About the Data
A web survey designed by the CORE Institute and the ACHA was administered
to a disproportionate, stratified random sample of 3,000 MSU students
in February, 2004, at the same time the same survey was being administered
on more than 179 other campuses across the nation as well. At MSU,
minority students were over-sampled to facilitate more meaningful
analyses based on racial or ethnic background. At MSU, the online
survey was carried out by the Office for Survey Research within
the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research. A total of
1335 students completed the online survey. Resources from this,
and previous arounds are avilable online.
