The Honorable George Mitchell

The Honorable George MitchellDuring Senator George Mitchell’s illustrious 14-year career in the U.S. Senate – he served six years as Majority Leader and was characterized by the high honor of bipartisan respect. The senator’s exceptional diplomatic abilities were demonstrated on a global scale when the British and Irish governments asked that he serve as chairman of peace negotiations in Northern Ireland. His latest best seller, Making Peace, is a personal retrospective of his role as chairman of the interparty negotiations that ultimately resulted in an accord overwhelmingly supported by Irish voters. The depth of Senator Mitchell’s career is extraordinary. His vast contributions and proven leadership are invaluable to the United States and to the world community in their scope, effectiveness, and global impact. An eloquent speaker with a keen sense of humor Senator Mitchell is an authority on a wide-range of domestic and global issues including finance, health care, welfare reform, education, the environment, and foreign policy.

The Honorable Alan SimpsonOne of the most colorful and influential of American leaders, Alan Simpson combines western wit and scathing honesty to tackle the most contentious of subjects. After ten years as Senate Republican whip, this Wyoming legislator continues to play a central role in national leadership. Author of Right in the Old Gazoo: A Lifetime of Scrapping with the Press, Simpson offers his audiences cutting-edge commentary, belly-laugh anecdotes and a healthy dose of reality in the midst of continuous media hype. Never shying away from controversy, Alan Simpson continues to voice his opinion on topics like, the energy crisis, national defense, taxes and health care issues.
Simpson served in the United States Senate from 1978 to 1997, acting as party whip for ten of those years. He was an active force on the Judiciary Committee, Finance Committee, Environment and Public Works Committee and a Special Committee on Aging. A veteran who served in Germany during the final months of the Allied occupation, he served as chair of the Veteran Affairs Committee. Currently a partner in a Washington-based government relations firm, Simpson is also a partner in a Denver-based law firm and a visiting lecturer at the University of Wyoming.
