Qualifications
All Michigan residents who are committed to public
service are
encouraged to apply for the MPLP
fellowship. Specifically, candidates
should show:
Dedication
to sound public policy
Desire
to enhance leadership skills to better serve communities
Interest
in running for public office at the local or state level
Desire
to participate in the political process
Willingness
to learn and explore different points of view
Requirements
100%
attendance and participation (Friday evening and Saturday, once a month from February through November)
Limited
to 24 individuals representing Michigan’s diverse population
Two
letters of recommendation
Employer
support and approval
Continued
involvement after graduation including fundraising to support future
classes
Application, Selection Process,
and Timeline
Applications are typically available in June and due in early September. They generally ask for two essay statements and two letters
of recommendation forwarded to the address below.

Fees
Considerable financial resources and time are donated to support each fellowship, which is valued at $12,000. The fellowship award covers the participants' lodging, meals and program costs. However, accepted Fellows are asked to pay an administrative fee of $1,000 to participate in the program. Scholarship funds to defray the administrative fee are available on a limited basis and maybe formally requested upon application to the program. Travel and some parking expenses are the responsibility of the participant.
Fellows are expected to support and assist the program in its fundraising
efforts during and after graduation to help ensure future classes.
