EAST LANSING, Mich. – The rapidly increasing cost of healthcare
and what individuals can do to make a difference will be the topic
of a public policy briefing sponsored by the Michigan State University
Institute for Public Policy and Social Research to be held Friday,
July 18.
The event is the fourth in a series of “2003 Public Policy
Briefings,” and will take place between 3 and 5 p.m. at the
Courtyard Marriott hotel in downtown Grand Rapids. The free program
is sponsored by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and is open to the public.
Speakers will discuss two aspects of the health care debate: how
government and employers are responding to the financial pressures
of providing health care; and how individuals can make a difference
by adopting healthier lifestyles.
Featured speakers include Marilyn Lieber, Governor’s Council
on Physical Fitness; Janet Olszewski, Michigan Department of Community
Health director; Ginny Seyferth, Detroit Medical Center; and Carl
VerBeek, Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce Health Care Committee
